This obituary from the New York Times best tells the story behind Ronnie Hawkins. One of my favorite groups, The Band, was Ronnie Hawkins' backing band for many years. I have a CD of Ronnie's best-known songs released by Rhino Records.
In the video above Ronnie sang with The Band at the Last Waltz which was supposed to be The Band's farewell concert. Some years later the group reformed and recorded albums and gave concerts.
