Remembering FM Radio in NYC and the 1960s and 1970s

I fondly remember FM radio in the 1960s and 1970s before the consultants took them over.  I welcome readers of Bruce's Journal to listen to this 6 minute scan of the FM dial that was posted by Bernie Wagenblast who works as a traffic reporter for 1010 WINS.  I had the pleasure of meeting Bernie at the first Oldies Meet and Greet in 2006.  A few years ago he sent me an audio birthday greeting on Facebook.

As I listened to this short recording it brought make memories of radio stations that have changed formats and/or call letters over the years.  Only the frequencies remained the same.  Back then there were four beautiful music stations:

  • 93.1 - WPAT
  • 100.3 WVNJ
  • 103.5 WTFM
  • 105.1 WRFM
The radio stations that I miss the most are:
  • 102.7 WNEW-FM
  • 97.1  WYNY
  • 95.5 WABC-FM
  • 98.7 - WOR-FM
Those were the days.
