Another Boring Sunday Afternoon at Citi Field as the Mets Lose to the Marlins 2-0

The game started out as a pitchers' duel between Taijuan Walker and Sandy Alcantara.  Pitchers' duels are boring as nothing happens.  Walker allowed only 3 hits in 7 innings while striking out 7.  Likewise, Alcantara allowed no runs on 6 hits in 7 innings.  So there was a scoreless tie at the end of nine innings with the free runner at second base appearing in the tenth inning.  Pinch-runner Billy Hamilton scored the first run or the Marlins on a throwing error by catcher Tomas Nido.  Luke Williams added an RBI single for the Marlins, who won for the eighth time in 11 games and earned a split of the four-game series.

It seems that the Mets are having difficulty getting hits with runners in scoring position.  The Mets' lead in the National League East over the Atlanta Braves has shrunk to 1 1/2 games.  On June 1 the lead was 10 1/2 games.  The Mets now go to Atlanta where they will play a three-game series against the Braves.
