For many years, I have subscribed to Spectrum and its predecessor, Time-Warner Cable. Over the years, the service has been excellent. I receive cable TV, a VOIP phone (it is not a landline phone), and internet. When I woke up this morning, a light on the internet modem was blinking. There was no dial tone on the phone. I checked my email on my cell phone, which stated at 3:44 AM that there was an outage in my area. At 7:45 AM, the internet came back. Thankfully, most of the outage came during the overnight hours.
There is an old saying - "you don't miss your water until the well runs dry." Likewise, we don't realize how dependent we are on the internet until we lose it.
