Yankees 5 Blue Jays 4

Even though we are big Mets fans we like to go to Yankee Stadium a few times a year.  I was able to get these tickets from Stub Hub.  We sat in the last row of the upper deck a little past first base.  A. J. Burnett was not at his best as he allowed 4 runs in 6 innings.  The bullpen completely shut the Blue Jays down as the Yankees won 5-4.

As we passed the site of the original Yankee Stadium we noticed that Heritage Field was finally taking shape 2 1/2 years after the last game was played there.  Most of the grass was down for three baseball fields.  Hopefully it will open soon since the people in the South Bronx should get the park space that they lost from the new stadium.

Baby Its You - Some Reviews are in after the opening

I'll quote from Fox News.  We report you decide.  I am going to provides links to a few reviews including my own and my readers can decide for themselves.  I will make some comments.

Needless to say my review is much more positive than those in the two newspapers.  However, I am not a professional theater critic. The Daily News review states "the songs are so blandly performed they don't make an impression."  I must respectfully disagree.  Perhaps the reviewer listens only to Lite-FM.  Another quote "The story, framed by a deejay/narrator  who sets the scenes, is sometimes so cliched you wonder why they didn't just do a concert."  Again, I must disagree since I feel that the songs were well integrated into the story line.  He also objects to songs by artists other than the Shirelles are in the show.  I feel that it places the songs of the Shirelles in the context of other hits of that which which I feel helps the non-oldies enthusiast enjoy the show.

The article in the New York Times seems less negative, but the reviewer states "But mostly they bop around acting like blandly innocent Jersey Girls, generic teenagers getting ready for a sock hop, or even Mouseketeers."

Certainly the show will appeal to my oldies radio friends who grew up during the era when the Shirelles hit the charts.  They key to its success will be whether it appeals to enthusiasts of other genres of music.  Certainly, the Jersey Boys did that, but it remains to be seen whether Baby Its You can duplicate that feat.

I should also make my readers aware that Dionne Warwick and Shirelles are suing the producers for using their names and likenesses without permission.

It is a Shame That Bob Dylan and John Lennon Never Recorded Together

About two years ago I reported in this journal that Bob Dylan and Paul McCartney would record together.  This never came to pass.  Bob and George Harrison recorded together on several occasions.  Sadly Bob  and John Lennon never collaborated.  That would have been some duo.  The Youtube video is a conversation between the two that occurred in London in May 1966.  It was a clip taken from the documentary Eat the Document.  I highly recommend that fans of either of these icons watch this 12 minute video.  My readers can see it at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=94yx1VtVHGg

Knick Ticket Prices to increase dramatically next season

You can read the facts here.  The Knicks finished the regular season at 42-40, lose in the first round of the playoffs and then raise the ticket prices.  The article only talks about season tickets, but I assume the prices for single game tickets will go up as well.  Thus, I would have to pay about $200 for 3 tickets for the 300 level behind the basket.  Back in high school I would only have to pay $1.25 for a game at the old Madison Square Garden.  I guess the fans have to pay for the $800 million renovation of the garden and the salaries of the superstars.

How About Those Mets

The Mets have now won 4 in a row.  All of these victories happened after my birthday.  Could there be a link?  It is more likely that this winning streak is a result of the return of Jason Bay.  We are not out of trouble yet.  The team is now 9-13 which is still a poor record.  Ove the course of a season things even out.  There is a long way to go.

Teac HD Radio with Ipod Cradle

I have owned an Accurian HD radio since October 2006.  Recently its performance has declined.  In any event no product lasts forever, so I wanted to buy an table radio for the dining room.  It has been well documented on radio message boards that HD radio has not caught on with the general public.  The programming on most HD2 and HD3 stations has not been completely developed.  I like the smooth jazz station on 101.9 HD2 and the country music station on 106.7 HD2.

The sound quality on this Teac radio is much better than the sound on the Accurian which was the second HD radio on the market in 2006.  The HD signal does not fade in and out on the Teac radio as it did on the Accurian.  I only paid $100 for this new radio.  My next radio will have to be an internet radio.

6 years and 1 day apart

Today is Karen's birthday.  I found out on our first date back in 1980 that her birthday was the day after mine.  Since I am off from work today (Good Friday) we'll have some time to be together.
