A Met fan's bragging rights

There will not be a subway series this year.  The Yankees choked during the big games.  The media  is making Alex Rodriguez the scapegoat since he only got one hit in 14 at bats in the ALDS.  There is even a story in the Daily News that Joe Torre will be fired and Lou Pinnella will be named new manager.  I really don't fault Joe, but you can't fire the team.  I think the Mets can now win the World Series.  I am hoping that San Diego wins their series so that Mike Piazza will come back to Shea.  How are you doing Din?

I was watching the game Saturday afternoon and shaking my head the entire time.  I am with the Post for firing Torre.  To be honest, I haven't ever been a Torre fan and long for the days when Showalter was the manager.  Sure the players did not like his tough attitude but they knew what they had to get done and most of the time they got it done.  With Torre, I am sure the players know what must be done but if they don't come through they don't feel the pressure they need to.  Torre is always insulating them and making excuses for them.  Guess what - when you have players making more than the GNP of 80% of the World's countries in one year (pardon me, eight months) there is no room for excuses.  Torre should be fired!

I don't put the blame just on Torre but I put the blame on every Yankees, up and down the line-up and in the bullpen/rotation.  A-Rod, I don't even need to saying anything else.  Derek Jeter was no superstar either.  Guess what - if we are going to praise him when he comes through in the clutch we gotta call him out when he doesn't.  Thank you for coming back Gary Sheffield.  Your .150 BA made a world of difference!  Randy Johnson is an...wait this is a family journal right?   What a dissapointment.  And for signing him - Cashman has to take some of the blame.  I wasn't a big fan of Bob Watson in the 1990's but he knew better than to sign big name talent who were on the "wrong" side of 35 - but Cashman does it consistently.   Don't say its Steinbrenner who forces him to do so because Steinbrenner was around in the 1990s and we did not see this happen.   To make a long story short - there is plenty of blame to go around.

I am not a crazy Yankees fan that you hear of WFAN-660AM but a rational one.  I am tired of seeing these all-star teams bought and not come through.  And even if they did come through it won't feel as special as the ones from 8-10 years ago where a team was built instead of bought.  There needs to be some serious change in New York and if that means the Yankees let the Blue Jays or the Red Sox win a division or two - so be it.

On second thought - scratch the Red Sox winning the division - but the rest still holds true!!!

BTW Bruce - don't expect me to say congratulations on the Mets advancing.  They are a New York team but they aren't the Yankees so don't expect me to be rooting for them anytime soon.
