The Mets and Matz Win Today without the Slutskys at the Stadium

We decided not to go to todays games at Citifeld since we thought it would be an extremely long day with the conclusion of the suspended game, the regularly scheduled game and the Steve Miller Band concert.  There was a short rain delay as the proceedings began at 1:30 PM with the 7th inning of yesterday's game.  Again no hitting for the Mets as the game went on for 13 innings as the Mets finally won it 2-1.

The regularly scheduled game started at 4:40 PM with pitcher Steven Matz making his major league debut.  He allowed two runs in 7 2/3 innings, but the big surprise was his hitting.   Matz doubled home New York's first two runs off Reds starter Josh Smith in his first career plate appearance, singled to extend a rally off Smith in the fifth inning, and drove home another two runs with a single off Pedro Villarreal in the sixth.  Maybe Terry Collins should play him in the field on days that he does not pitch.

The Mets won the game 7-2 to complete a sweep of the Reds.

Game summary

I assume that the concert did not start until after 8 PM.
