World Science Festival Street Fair at Washington Square Park

For many years I have been a proponent of the popularization of science. I even had a publication on the subject:

Slutsky, Bruce. Communicating Science to the Public: An Address to Non-Science Librarians. The Reference Librarian, No. 40:73-87

The World Science Festival consisted of 40 events held in NYC over the past 5 days. The final event today the Street Fair took place in or near Washington Square Park in Greenwich Village.

We saw a demonstration by Physics Professors at Rutgers University where they demonstrated some very simple physical properties. From there we went over to the Discovery Theater at the Kimmel Center of NYU where we heard 3 brief talks by scientific authors:
  • Dave Bolinksy - Inner Life of the Cell
  • Vanessa Woods - Bonobo Handshake
  • Dennis Shasha - Natural Computing

We finished the day by seeing demonstrations of robots designed by students at the Bronx High School of Science and Virginia Tech.
