June 2003 - Memphis

We just had to go to Memphis to see Graceland. I remember flying on AirTran and have to change at Atlanta to get a cheap fare. When we were there I observed that most of the visitors were not yet born when Elvis died in 1977. We took a tour of the city and as the bus passed by the hospital where Elvis died there was a shade at the window of his room. While we were there we:

  • Saw a minor league baseball game with the Memphis Redbirds
  • Visited the Lorraine Motel where Martin Luther King was assassinated. It is now a civil rights museum
  • Took a boat ride along the Mississippi River
  • Saw the Sun Records studio
  • Walked along Beale Street
  • Toured the Memphis Rock and Soul Museum

The song for today is a no brainer. Chuck performed Memphis at a concert in London in 1972. You can see it at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ADCz4pXYoVo
