I became familiar with Carl Perkins in the mid 1960s when the Beatles covered Honey Don't, Everybody's Trying to be my Baby, and Matchbox. On January 21, 1998, a few days after Carl died I went to a Bob Dylan concert at Madison Square Garden when Van Morrision was the opening act. Bob and Van played Blue Suede Shoes together as a tribute to Carl.
