Radio Personalities should not state their musical preferences on the air

A newspaper reports the news and must be objective in its coverage. It can state its opinion on the editorial page. A radio audience consists of listeners who have various tastes and preferences for artists within a genre of music. Sometimes the disk jockey picks the music for a show or sometimes the playlist comes from a computerized list. A DJ is certainly entitlted to his/her preferences in music, but if he/she dislikes an artist he should not editorialize about it over the air.

This remark is intentionlly being very vague and is not being posted on a message board. Please contact me privately if you want to discuss the details of a particular incident.

Let me clarify a little bit. Back in the late 1960s, A DJ really liked River Deep Mountain High by Ike and Tina Turner. Although it was a great record (here I agree) he played it to death imposing it on listeners. Very recently, another DJ unfairly bashed Bob Dylan which gave his audience a wrong impression of his long history of songs.
